About me
After years in London editing* consumer magazines, I decamped to the country to write books, manage a smallholding and create a magical garden. That’s going pretty well, although keeping sheep has proved trickier than I’d imagined. Chickens are easier. Anyway, I have kept to my intention and written a few books since I got here.
Just lately (July 2026) The Flower Fairies Herbal: recipes and remedies from the hedgerow, field and forest has been published by Verbena. This follows on from the second three titles in the Little Wild Library series – Hawthorn, Wild Rose and Elder (Verbena), which came out last year. These were hot on the heels of The Water Remedy in April (Calon), and The Witch’s Shadow Work Oracle Deck (Watkins), in June. You can find out more about these and my other titles under the Books tab on this website or on my Amazon author page.
I’m currently just finishing writing three titles in the Little Herb Library series (Rosemary, Sage, Lavender) which follows on from the success of the six titles in the Little Wild Library series, and which will be published in 2027.
Alongside book writing, I contribute features to various publications and websites, writing about UK travel, wellbeing, homes, and gardens. You can see some of these on here.
I have also immersed myself in village life, which I am recording in posts on Substack, alongside rituals and remedies that chime with the season. You can find me @claregogerty. My new life in the sticks has also been recorded as a TV programme. Series 26 of Escape to the Country: Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. I come in towards the end accompanied by my dog Fred, the sheep and the chickens.
I am represented by Jane Graham Maw (jane@grahammawchristie.com) of literary agents Graham Maw Christie. But you can contact me on claregogerty@gmail.com.
* These include Coast, which won several awards under my editorship, the National Trust Magazine, and Grand Designs Magazine. I was also deputy editor of The Sunday Times homes title insideout, homes and gardens editor of The Simple Things, and chief sub-editor on Tatler, Esquire and InStyle magazines.
